Alpacas
There are 2 breeds of alpaca's the Huacaya and Suri. The alpaca's are native to Bolivia, Peru and Chile in South America with Huacaya breed imported to the United States in the early 1980's. The Suri breed coming in the early 1990's. Our farm consists mostly of Huacaya's, which have a teddy bear, fuzzy blanket of fiber. Suri's have very long silky locks. We have 38 Huacaya's, 1 Huacaya / Suri cross, along with 1 Huacaya / Llama cross. The barn is also shared with our cats Jonis, Freebie and Kona. Each alpaca is named and have distinct personality. Several of our "kids" love to be touched, though don't pet their heads, only their backs and necks.
